Group Leader: Sezer Özerinç
Sezer Özerinç is the principal investigator of Nanomechanics Laboratory. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Middle East Technical University. He completed his Ph.D. at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2015. He is currently an Assistant Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, METU, Ankara. He is also affiliated with the Department of Micro and Nanotechnology. His research focuses on the micro and nanomechanical characterization of nanostructured metals, metallic glasses, high entropy alloys and 3D-printed materials.
Ph.D. Students
Amir Fadaie
Amir Fadaie received his B.S. degree from the Materials and Metallurgical Engineering Department at IAUN University Isfahan Iran. His undergraduate research focused on glassy materials for biomedical applications. He completed his M.S. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department of METU (2014) during which he worked on the production and structural characterization of Iron-Boron nanoalloys. He is currently a Ph.D. Student at the Micro and Nanotechnology Department of METU. He joined the Nanomechanics Group in Spring 2018.

Roozbeh Neshani
Roozbeh Neshani received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tabriz University, İran. His undergraduate research focused on fuel cells and the manufacturing of a pressure-sensitive pitot-tube speedometer. He joined Nanomechanics Laboratory in Spring 2019. He worked on the mechanical characterization of high entropy alloy nanocomposites and additively manufactured metamaterials and composites. Roozbeh defended his M.S. thesis titled "Impact Absorbing Lattice Structures Produced by Additive Manufacturing". Roozbeh started his Ph.D. in spring 2022 and is currently working on the mechanical characterization of accumulative roll bonded nanocomposite metals.

M.S. Students
Yaman Arslanca
Yaman Arslanca received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Gazi University. He joined Nanomechanics Laboratory in the Fall of 2021. He is currently working on the characterization of the effects of gap and overlap defects on the mechanical properties of automated fiber placement (AFP) manufactured carbon fiber reinforced composites in collaboration with Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc.

Ahmet Sinan Kaymakçı
Ahmet Sinan Kaymakçı received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from İzmir Institute of Technology, İzmir in 2019. He joined Nanomechanics Laboratory in the Fall of 2022. He is currently working on the mechanical characterization of carbon fiber-reinforced composite repairs in collaboration with Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc.

Abdullah Alduais
Abdullah Alduais received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sana'a University, Yemen in 2013. Abdullah joined Nanomechanics Laboratory in Summer 2019 for M.S. study and worked on the development and application of novel filaments for polymer additive manufacturing. He obtained his M.S. degree in 2021.

Mohammad Abboud
Mohammad Abboud joined Nanomechanics Group in Fall 2016, and he obtained his M.S. degree in Fall 2018. His thesis title is Micromechanical Characterization of Metallic Glass - Crystalline Nanocomposite Coatings. He was co-advised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Y. Eren Kalay. He is currently a Ph.D. student at the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany.

Alican Tuncay Alpkaya
Alican Tuncay Alpkaya joined Nanomechanics Group in Fall 2016, and he obtained his M.S. degree in Spring 2018. His thesis title was "Experimental Investigation of the Mechanical Properties of Nanolayered Metals". He was co-advised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Y. Eren Kalay. He is currently a Ph.D. student at the İzmir Institute of Technology.

Resul Atik
Resul Atik joined Nanomechanics Laboratory in Summer 2019 as an undergraduate of METU ME. He worked on the characterization of the mechanical properties of 3D printed parts made of recycled plastics. He published two papers as a result of his work in our lab. He is currently working in Ekinoks-AG Ltd. Şti.

Sencer Aydın
Sencer Aydın received his B.S. degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from Middle East Technical University. Sencer joined Nanomechanics Laboratory in Fall 2017. He is working on the experimental characterization of 3D printed materials and structures.

Ali Alperen Bakır
Ali Alperen Bakır joined Nanomechanics Group in Fall 2018 as an undergraduate of METU Mechanical Engineering. He worked on the mechanical characterization of 3D printed specimens made of recycled thermoplastics. As a result of his work, he published two journal papers. Later on, he moved to the UK and completed his M.S. study at the University of Nottingham. Afterward, he briefly rejoined the Nanomechanics Lab in 2020 and worked on the mechanical characterization of 3D printed foaming thermoplastic polyurethane. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree at Coventry University with The Welding Institute.

Ali Bagheri Behboud
Ali Bagheri Behboud received his B.S degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tabriz, İran. He joined Nanomechanics Laboratory in Spring 2019 and worked on the development of high toughness metallic glass nanocomposites. He graduated from our group with an MS degree in 2021. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at Bilkent University.

Sevda Fathipour
Sevda Fathipour joined the Nanomechanics laboratory in Fall 2019 and she has worked on solid solution strengthening of nanostructured materials for a year.
Sabit Hasçelik
Sabit Hasçelik is an undergraduate student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Middle East Technical University. He joined Nanomechanics Laboratory in Summer 2019. He is working on the mechanical properties of 3D printed polyamide structures. He is currently working at Arçelik.

Deniz Karanfil
Deniz Karanfil is an undergraduate student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Middle East Technical University. He joined Nanomechanics Laboratory in Summer of 2019 and worked on the mechanical properties of 3D printed polyamide structures for a year. He is currently a Ph.D. student at the University of California, Davis.

Burçin Kaygusuz
Burçin Kaygusuz received her B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from Gazi University (2013). Her undergraduate research was the adsorption of heavy metals from wastewater by using biomaterials. She completed her M.S. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering of METU (2016) during which she worked on Li-ion and Li-S batteries and material synthesis. She joined Nanomechanics Laboratory in Fall 2017. Her Ph.D. thesis focused on the development of new generation hard nitride coatings for wear resistance applications. She also worked on the microstructural characterization of refractory materials and 3D printed materials. Her thesis work was funded by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) through an ARDEB 1001 project and she obtained her Ph.D. degree in Fall 2021. She is currently working in TUSAŞ Aerospace Industries Inc.

Mehmet Kepenekci
Mehmet Kepenekci received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Middle East Technical University. He joined Nanomechanics Laboratory in Fall 2018. He investigated the mechanical behavior of additively manufactured polymer composite structures and interfaces through various projects. Mehmet obtained his M.S. degree in Fall 2021. His thesis title is "Mechanical Behavior of Additively Manufactured Polymer Composite Structures and Interfaces". He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree at The University of Texas at Austin.

Barış Nigar
Barış Nigar joined Nanomechanics Laboratory in Spring 2016 and obtained his M.S. degree in Fall 2020. His thesis title was "Analysis of Crack Initiation and Propagation in Solid Rocket Motor Nozzle Throats". He is currently working as a structural design engineer at Roketsan Inc.
E. Evren Sonat
Evren Sonat received her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Middle East Technical University. She joined Nanomechanics Laboratory in Fall 2018 and completed her Ph.D. in 2021. Her thesis title was "Mechanical Properties of Repaired Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer Composites". She is currently an MRB / Liason Engineer in the Turkish Aerospace Industry (TUSAŞ).

Gökhan Tarman
Gökhan Tarman is an undergraduate student in the Department of Materials Science and Nanotechnology Engineering, TOBB University. He joined Nanomechanics Laboratory in Fall 2019 as an intern. He is working on the mechanical characterization of metallic glass thin films.

Can İhsan Tekinbaş
Can İhsan Tekinbaş joined Nanomechanics Group in Spring 2018 as an undergraduate of METU Mechanical Engineering. He worked on the development of a filament extruder for recycled thermoplastics. He is currently at Vestel.

Hakan Uysal
Hakan Uysal received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Middle East Technical University in 2020. He joined Nanomechanics Laboratory in the Fall of 2020 for his M.S. study. His thesis is focused on the development of high-performance heat transfer channels by additive manufacturing. He is also currently working as a mechanical design engineer at Aselsan Inc.

Hamed Zeinalabedini
Hamed Zeinalabedini received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tabriz and his M.S. in Machine Design from İstanbul Technical University. He joined Nanomechanics Laboratory in Fall 2020, and has worked on the development of nanostructured alloys using the accumulative roll bonding technique until summer 2022. He is now an engineer at Btech Innovation.
